Paragliding-river rafting allowed in more sites in Himachal

To promote adventure tourism and adventure sports in Himachal Pradesh, the government said that it has allowed paragliding and river rafting at more sites. 

For this, they have notified additional sites for paragliding and river rafting in Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Chamba, and Shimla and have also approved paragliding and river rafting at these places.

Director of tourism and civil aviation Younus said that now tourists coming to the state will be able to enjoy paragliding at new sites in the districts of Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Chamba and Shimla.

He said that under the 'Nai Raheen Nai Manzil' scheme, new possibilities are being explored to promote adventure sports activities in areas which have not been explored much.

The new paragliding locations selected include Pandhara to Gadasa and Khadgan to Nangabag in Kullu district, Tang Narwana to Khirku in Kangra district and Darouta to Lahra (Khajiar) in Chamba district, Lahra to Dairol and Raina to Nainikhar Jarei.

In Mandi district, the paragliding sites selected include Parashar and Spanidhar, while those in Shimla district include Tikkar and Junga to Chauri. At the same time, to promote water sports, the site from Nadaun to Dehra bridge has been approved for river rafting on Beas river. 

Apart from these, other existing sites include Bir-Billing and Chohla Indru Nag near Dharamshala in Kangra district, Solang Nalh, Marhi, Talati-Togli and Majach-Shanagh in Kullu district, Mauja Rehar in Kargonu in Solan district and Serge Jagas in Sirmaur district are included.

Other rafting sites on the river include Shamsi to Poison and Babeli to Pirdi in Kullu District, Luhari to Tattapani in Shimla District, Jarko in Lahaul-Spiti District and Darcha from Kaja Pul to Tabo. 

He said that the Tourism Department in collaboration with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS) in Manali for safe paragliding has also taken initiative to provide training to pilots and tourists.
