Pakistan's New Security Policy wants peace with India

In this national security policy of Pakistan, emphasis has been laid on the matter of peace with India. According to the report published in Pakistani media, Pakistan has given the highest importance to economic security in its national security policy.

According to the Express Tribune, this document talks about increasing bilateral trade and investment with India without a final solution to Kashmir. According to Pakistani media, only a few things have come to the fore in this document, while the main document has not been made public.

According to the Express Tribune, a government official told reporters about the policy document, which is of 100 pages. “We do not want enmity with India for the next 100 years. The new policy talks of peace with India. It has been advocated to start bilateral trade with India.

Relations between India and Pakistan had derailed from 5 August 2019. On this day, the Modi government of India abolished Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

In response, Pakistan cut diplomatic ties with India and suspended bilateral trade. In February last year, both countries announced a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC). Since then it was expected that both the countries are ready to end the tension in the relationship.

Economic security

The Express Tribune wrote, "Pakistan is moving from geo-strategic to geo-economics in the new national security policy. Economic security will be central to Pakistan's national security," an official said. In addition, in Pakistan's foreign policy, The emphasis is on enhancing economic ties and peace with the neighboring country but the focus on geo-economics does not mean that geostrategic and geopolitical interests will be neglected. The Kashmir issue with India is an important part of Pakistan's The issue is national policy.

The Express Tribune wrote, "Pakistan government official clarifies, this does not mean that we have to develop a friendship with the Narendra Modi-led government in New Delhi. This policy document is about both external and internal security.

"But geo-economics does not mean that we ignore our geo-strategic and geo-political interests," the official said, adding that the Kashmir dispute has been identified as an 'important national policy' issue for Pakistan.

The official said this would be the first time a codified national security policy would cover both internal security as well as foreign policy. "Only a part of national security policy will be made public," the official clarified, adding that in the rest of the world such policies are often classified.

The official said that though Pakistan has defence, foreign and internal policies, the new policy will act as an "umbrella document" providing direction for the future.
