Muslims around the world have been reacting sharply to 'insulting statements' made by two leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about the Prophet of Islam. India has been sharply criticized in this regard and an apology is being sought from it. Now some party leaders of the BJP start deleting Anti Muslim posts from social media.
BJP leaders deleting anti-muslim post
AS per the reports National Secretary BJP Youth and Spokesperson BJP Delhi Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga has deleted over 2000 tweets in the last 24 hours which had Islamophobic content.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India has suspended two of its leaders following a backlash from Muslim countries over insulting statements against the Prophet of Islam. But the Party workers are outraged by the move and are openly expressing their displeasure on social media against Prime Minister Modi and the party leadership.
The two suspended leaders also demanded an unconditional apology in separate statements issued on Monday. But on the one hand, the demand for legal action by the Muslims against these two leaders, former BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Delhi unit spokesperson Naveen Jindal, is intensifying. Heartbroken and outraged by the move.
Not ready to speak openly
However, leaders of the BJP and its affiliated Hindu nationalist and extremist parties have been reluctant to speak openly on the issue.
When DW Urdu asked Vinod Bansal, a spokesman for the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a Hindu affiliate of the RSS, to comment on the BJP's move, he hung up. Don't want to talk about it.
When DW Urdu wanted to know the reaction of Tejinder Baga, secretary of BJP's youth wing, he said that the statement issued by the party was enough. When asked if party workers were complaining of discouragement from the statement, Tejinder Baga refused to respond.
Anti Muslims tweets
According to Firstdraftnews, between May 12 and 17, the hashtag appeared in 40,000 tweets and retweets and was published by 5,958 individual accounts.
Among the main narratives using the hashtag was the idea that Muslims are a threat to Hindu life and that they are a threat to India's national security. Human Rights Watch warns that these issues have long been promoted by leaders of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and affiliated groups.
Among the 100 most shared tweets in the dataset, 28 posts included references to the Islamophobic "love jihad" conspiracy theory, sexual violence, alleged incidents of community violence, or rejection of Muslim customs.
Criticism from opposition parties
Opposition parties have taken a hard line against the Hindu nationalist ruling party after the BJP suspended two of its spokespersons and condemned the blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam.
The Congress party said that it was the fault of the BJP and not the fault of India. Therefore, the BJP should apologize to the whole of India. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, "If BJP makes a mistake and India apologizes, it is absolutely unacceptable. A Prime Minister and his party have humiliated all Indians."
A Twitter user wrote, "Congress has not really done in 70 years what Modiji did in eight years. We have never felt so much humiliation, so much embarrassment."
