NTPHC in Pulwama sans basic facilities

Locals appeal authorities for help

A new type primary health centre (NTPHC) at Chersoo village in Awantipora Tehsil of South Kashmir's Pulwama district lacks all basic facilities due to which locals are suffering.

Residents said that a PHC was established here around a decades before and was working in the two-room building, however, a building was constructed but nothing changed on the ground in terms of facilities.

Locals said that residents of over one dozen villages are suffering due to the callous attitude of authorities towards the centre as no attention is being given towards the centre.

Officials posted at the centre sad that the centre lacks the entire basic infrastructure required for smooth functioning and despite repeated reminders to the authorities, "no facility has been enhanced at the hospital."

"Apart from first aid, no medicine is available in the centre due which hardly any patient visits here," they said, adding that people prefer to visit other neighbouring hospitals as there is no facility available at this health centre.

"Authorities have upgraded it to PHC but only on paper, it is not even worth to be called dispensary as it works without any laboratory, dental section, ambulance and doctors," they said. "One doctor is posted here but for the last three years he hasn't spent even 3 hours since he was posted here."

Locals said that they have contacted higher-ups in this regard several times but "doctor uses his approach to save himself."

Shahid Ahmad, a local resident said that only Chersoo village has a population of over 7,000 and people from many more adjacent villages are dependent on it.

Locals demanded authorities to transfer this doctor and equip this health centre with modern facilities so that locals won't suffer anymore.

On contacting Block Medical Officer Tral, Dr Bashir Ahmad said that doctor has two night offs, however, he should remain present for four days at the centre.

"I will look into the matter and if reports are found to be true, action will be taken against him. Every possible step for the betterment of the centre will also be taken," he said—(KNO)
