Nitish Kumar to be named oppn Presidential candidate

Nitish Kumar presidential candidate

Ground Report | New Delhi: It is being speculated in the political corridors that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may be the presidential candidate of the opposition parties. The presidential election in India is to be held in July. However, Nitish Kumar has dismissed these speculations.

Election strategist Prashant Kishor and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) have started a meeting with leaders of opposition parties on the possibility of making Nitish Kumar the presidential candidate. Prashant Kishor has been a confidant of Nitish Kumar.

On February 21, Prashant Kishor had a long meeting with Nitish Kumar in Delhi. Although both called it a courtesy call. In the same month, Prashant Kishor also met the Chief Minister of Telangana in Hyderabad. Apart from this, Chandrashekhar Rao also met Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav in Hyderabad. The meeting of Tejashwi and KCR is being considered very important.

Apart from this, KCR had also recently met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar. It is being said that KCR is trying to unite like-minded parties against the BJP.

A senior Bihar Congress leader told The Hindu on condition of anonymity, “Perhaps the plan is that the RJD support Nitish Kumar as the presidential candidate of the opposition parties and Tejashwi should be made the chief minister of Bihar.” But for this Nitish Kumar will have to first break the alliance with BJP. However, the President is elected indirectly through the Electoral College and is attended by members of both the Houses of Parliament. I am not sure that the opposition has that much support.

Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Nawab Malik has said in Mumbai that the name of Nitish Kumar can be discussed only if he first breaks the alliance with the BJP. Nawab Malik said that any decision will be taken by the political parties collectively.

RJD leader and MLA Shakti Yadav has said that it will be a matter of happiness for his party if Nitish Kumar is made the BJP president. However, when Nitish Kumar was asked about this, he said that he does not even think about it. Nitish Kumar had said this to the media in Bhagalpur on Tuesday.
