NIA operation in Jammu and Kashmir, raids at many places

Ground Report | New Delhi: NIA operation in Jammu The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at several places in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. An NIA official associated with the investigation said that the agency, along with the CRPF, is conducting searches at several places in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

These raids are being done on the premises of Jamaat-e-Islami. In 2019, the central government had banned this organization for 5 years.

A source in the agency said that the Terrorism Investigation Agency is conducting searches at the premises belonging to senior members of the banned terrorist organization Jamaat-e-Islami.

NIA operation in Jammu and Kashmir

The source said that searches are going on at least 40 places, in recent days the NIA has conducted searches at different places in two different cases and also arrested some people.

NIA raids are being conducted at more than 45 locations in 14 districts. These include areas like Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipore, Anantnag, Shopian.

Earlier on Saturday, the NIA had conducted searches at nine places in Shopian, Anantnag, and Jammu districts in connection with the arrest of Hidayatullah and six places in Shopian and Ramban in connection with the arrest of a Lashkar terrorist with 5 kg IED in Bhatindi.

The agency said several digital devices were seized during the searches. These include laptops, mobile phones, pen drives, hard disks, memory cards, used bullet shells, CDs, booklets containing objectionable material, plastic face masks used during stone pelting, handwritten jihadi material, ID cards of Al-Aqsa Media. and others.

During interrogation by the police, Hidayatullah had said that he had conducted a reconnaissance of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval's Delhi office and sent a video of it to his masters in Pakistan. He had also said that the Jaish-e-Mohammed, which investigators say was behind the 2019 terror attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, was trying to create a terror network in Jammu and identify targets in Delhi.

Network to bring arms from Bihar

According to the police, he had formed a network with the help of associates in Punjab to bring arms from Bihar. Officials said that they have so far brought seven pistols from Chhapra in Bihar and distributed them among the terrorists in Kashmir.

Following the arrest of Hidayatullah, the police arrested two Kashmiri students enrolled in private colleges in the periphery of Chandigarh in connection with a conspiracy to target Jammu on the second anniversary of the Pulwama attack. The arrested students, identified as Shuhail Bashir Shah and Qazi Wasim, both residents of Pulwama, said the police had come from East Chandigarh to put 7 kg of IED at a crowded place in Jammu, but he was caught in the city.

In Jammu division’s Banihal area of Ramban district, sources said, NIA conducted searches at houses of Nadeem-ul-Haq (resident of Zenihal) and Talib Rehman (of Kaskoot), besides Nadeem Ayub Rather (from Shopian in Kashmir). The last two were arrested based on Nadeem’s disclosure.

The NIA is trying to find the link between LeT’s plan to plant an IED in Jammu on June 26 evening and the drone attack on IAF station a few hours later, besides unearthing LeM’s network — suspected to stretch from J&K to Bihar. The probe agency had last week arrested two alleged LeM militants who come from Bihar’s Saran district.
