The tensions between India and Nepal seem to be getting tightening, after a video of apparently a Nepalese national went viral on social media. The man in the video can be seen being tonsured and forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ near a river bank.
Though, the perpetrators are not identifiable, the river bank seems to be somewhere in UP. After shaving off the victim’s head, the perpetrators have also written ‘Ram’ on his scalp with ink. He was also forced to chant slogans against Nepal PM K.P.S. Oli.
The video went viral after the Convener of a fringe group called Vishwa Hindu Sena, Arun Pathak, posted it on his Facebook account. Consequently, Nepali Ambassador Nilambar Acharya called UP Chief Minister to investigate the issue and take relevant action in it.
The incident happened after Nepal PM K.P.Sharma Oli said last week that Lord Ram belonged to Nepal and not India. He had also said that ‘real’ Ayodhya was in Nepal. The comments gathered an angry reaction from many people.
In a Facebook post, Pathak wrote that what happened was a reaction to Oli’s comments. He declared that “his activists had written Jai Shri Ram' on the head of a Nepali.” He also claimed that “thousands had given their heads in sacrifice for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya.”
In a separate post on Facebook, Pathak wrote that, “Jai Shri Ram would be written on heads of many Nepalese so that Oli would never speak against Lord Ram.”
According to a report by The Hindu, a case has been filed against the members of Vishwa Hindu Sena. The Inspector General of Varanasi Zone tweeted that the police station at Bhelupur was taking appropriate action in the case. He wrote that police has taken cognizance of the matter.
The incident may escalate tensions between India and Nepal.
