Ground Report | New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra won gold; Neeraj Chopra has given India the first gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Neeraj threw 87.5 meters in his second attempt at the men's javelin throw. It was his best. India has so far won 7 medals in the Tokyo Olympics. In this way, India has made the record of winning the most medals in an Olympics.

In Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj Chopra qualified with the only throw and it was a splendid effort of 86.65m. She was India's biggest hope of getting a medal in athletics. The 23-year-old, currently ranked fourth in the world, reached the final of the men's javelin throw after a brilliant first throw in qualification.

Neeraj Chopra won gold medal

Earlier, India had won six medals at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Also, Neeraj has become only the second player to win gold for India in the individual event of the Olympics. Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal for India in the 10m rifle shooting at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Neeraj Chopra, playing in the Olympics for the first time, topped both the groups in the qualification round. Then the 23-year-old athlete had thrown 86.65 meters.

As far as the best throw of the year 2020 is concerned, Neeraj Chopra was second. Looking at the best throw of the year 2021 so far, Neeraj Chopra is at number four. Based on the best throws of 12 athletes present in the final match, Neeraj had the 5th best throw. The waiter, Weber of Germany and two throwers from the Czech Republic, had thrown a longer throw than Neeraj.

The story started from the village of Panipat

Neeraj is only the second Indian athlete after Anju Bobby George to win a gold medal in any major athletics championship in the world.

The story of Neeraj begins from a small village in Panipat, where as a boy, Neeraj was quite heavy - weighing about 80 kg. Wearing kurta pyjama, Neeraj was called Sarpanch by all.

In order to improve his fitness, he started going to the stadium in Panipat and tried his hand at Javelin at the behest of others. And from there the journey started.

In search of better facilities, Neeraj shifted to Panchkula and for the first time he faced national level players. They started getting better facilities.

When he started playing at the national level, instead of the poor quality javelin, he got a good gelwin in his hand. Slowly, there was a change in Neeraj's game.
