Kanishtha Singh, Ground Report:

A pregnant elephant died last week after locals allegedly fed her a pineapple stuffed with crackers in Kerala’s Malappuram district. The incident took place on May 27. Forest officials said the elephant died standing in the river Velliyar after it suffered an injury in its lower jaw. After the incident took place, we all came across the outrage over killing of a pregnant elephant in Kerala. The incident was all over the social media and triggers nationwide outrage.

Twitter is trending with #KeralaElephantMurder and there is a high echo of outrage among the netizens after the incident happened.

However, Kerala chief minister promised strict action against the offenders. "The forest department is probing the case and the culprits wont be spared" said Kerala CM P Vijayan.

Consequently, the forest department is believed to have made a breakthrough in its investigation. The elephant died in Velliyar river inside SNVP (Silent Valley National Park) near the border of Palakkad and Malappuram districts on may 27. The animal entered the river and stood in the water for hours after it consumed the crackers filled pineapple, according to examination the cracker is believed to have exploded inside the elephant's mouth when it chewed the fruit. It's jaw was found broken.

Now the major question we all have is, Did someone purposely fed elephant with cracker?

No, because pineapple stuffed with crackers are kept by farmers to keep away the wild animals from farm lands. However, forest officers said it was too quick to say if it was kept for elephant.

Regardless this incident came into light when a forest official shared this with an emotional message. Such incidents are brutal, tragic and important to act upon. But the truth is in search of being civilization we came far away from humanisation.
