“On this great occasion when the great Nation of India enters its 76th year of independence, let me say this as an Indian with unwavering pride and authority: Bharat Mata Ki Jai. The freedom we enjoy today is the result of the sacrifices of Gandhiji, Nehru, Bhagat Singh and many other great revolutionaries and revolutionary heroes,” he said.

Furthermore, he continued: “Today every Indian has a choice: what he should speak about, what he should eat, what religion he should choose. You have a choice and freedom of expression in all of this. Every Indian has the right to oppose anyone who asks him to leave. The dignity of the great nation of India, which was resurrected on August 15, must not be compromised in front of anyone.

However, there are riots in some places, even today. This is reflected in the eruption of violence based on religion, caste, politics. All of these must be eliminated by all of us together with love and unity. Even the shadow of discomfort must be erased. Together, we must live this life.”

“Even the shadow of any unrest should be wiped out. We all should live as one life and should make every effort to take India to the top. We should dream of a better tomorrow without any differences and conflicts,” she said.

"As India enters its 76th Independence Day, on this special occasion, as an Indian with unwavering pride and authority, I would like to say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai,'" he said.

Kappan, a reporter for the Malayalam news portal Azhimukham and secretary of the Delhi unit of the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ), was arrested along with three others in October 2020 while on his way to Hathras to report on the gang rape of a 19 two-year-old Dalit woman.

The police had claimed that the accused were trying to disrupt law and order in Hathras. They had also alleged that the accused had links to the Popular Front of India (PFI).

Earlier this month, the Lucknow Division of the Allahabad High Court rejected his application for bail.

Before that, a Mathura court had rejected Kappan's bail declaration, after which he approached the high court.

Kappan were charged under Sections 17 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), Sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 295A ( willful and malicious acts intended to offend religious sentiments) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 65, 72 and 75 of the Information Technology Act. The rape victim had died in a Delhi hospital a fortnight after the alleged rape of her by four men from her village on September 14, 2020. She was cremated in the middle of the night in her village. .

Her family members claimed that the cremation, which took place well after midnight, was carried out without her consent and that they were not allowed to take the body home one last time.
