Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 750MW Solar Power Project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday. “The state will emerge as a major hub for clean and cheap power in the country”, PM Modi said during the video conference.
"Not just for the present, solar energy will be a medium of energy needs of the 21st century because solar power is sure, pure and secure", said PM Modi.
Here 10 important facts to know about the Solar Power Project:
The project consists of 3 solar generating units of 250MW each. The total area enclosed by the solar park is of about 1500 hectares.
An amount of 138 crores was allocated by the centre for the development of this project.
The Plant has been developed by the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL). This is a joint venture between Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVN) and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
The energy produced from the plant will also serve to the Delhi Metro. Thus becoming the first solar power plant to supply energy to an institutional customer out of the state.
Not only the industries but the poor, the farmers and even the tribals of the state will benefit from this project.
The Solar Power Project in Rewa is expected to reduce the carbon emission. This could round up to 15 lakh tons of CO2 per year.
It is India’s first solar project to have broken the grid parity barrier.
The project has also received the ‘World Bank Group President’s Award’ for its excellence and innovation. The project was also included in PM’s “A Book of Innovations: New Beginnings”.
The project has been well acknowledged in India as well as abroad. Its structure and planning have been lauded by The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
India aims to produce 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022. Solar Energy is expected to have a maximum share of 100 GW in this goal. Therefore, the newly launched Solar Power plant in Rewa is an important step towards fulfilling the target.
