Most requests for account info in July-December 2020 from India: Twitter

Ground Report | New Delhi: Most requests for account info; Between July and December last year, Twitter received the highest number of requests for account information from the government in India. Giving this information on Wednesday, this micro-blogging site said that India accounts for 25 percent of such requests made worldwide.

Twitter said in its Transparency Report blog that India is also second only to Japan in terms of the number of legal demands for the removal of content. The company issues report twice a year to report such requests. Twitter said in its new blog that it provided some or all of the information in response to 30 percent of such requests from governments around the world.

The company said that India is the largest source of requests for information from the government and accounts for 25 percent of the requests received from around the world. It is followed by America, whose share is 22 percent. (Most requests for account info)

Twitter reported that Japan, India, Russia, Turkey, and South Korea are in the top five countries, respectively, in terms of the number of legal demands for removal of content.
The US-based company said the accounts of 199 verified journalists and news outlets around the world were subject to 361 legal requests -- a 26 percent increase in requests since the previous reporting period.
