There are other countries producing rare and expensive fruits but Japan stands out among all other countries. An English philosopher named John Stuart Mill once said, “All good things which exist are the fruit of originality.” Fruits are low in calories and are vital wellsprings of vitamins and starches like fiber and sugar.

But some fruits are not for everyone as they can cost a fortune due to their rareness.

Some of the most expensive fruits with their maximum value on our list below:

Yubari Melon -$23,000 per pair (INR 13,80,000)

These are orange-fleshed melons grown in Japan; reared in greenhouses, these melons are also given hats to protect them from sunlight. Due to the sweetness of this giant melon. Yubari melon is the hybrid of two other melon cultivars and is grown only in Hokkaido, Japan. In Japan, Yubari melons are especially given as blessings. Some people are ready to pay thousands of dollars to get their hands on these melons. They always come in a pair of two and can cost you around $23,000 for each pair, the most expensive food in the world.

Densuke Watermelon -$6100 each (INR 3,66,000)

This special watermelon is black and has no stripes over it. It is an 11 kg fruit exclusively grown in Japan’s nethermost island, Hokkaido. A Densuke Watermelon was sold in an auction in 2008 at the highest price of $6100. About 10,000 of them are grown every year and are famous for their essence of rarity. One of these watermelons can cost around $6100 depending upon the exporting nation.

Ruby Roman Grapes -$4,000 per bunch (2,40,000)

You will be shocked to see the size of these grapes; they look like ping pong balls. The farming of this type of grapes is very rare and was first done in the year 2008. If you want to taste a sample grape piece, you need to spend $910.The awesome Ruby Roman grapes are mainly grown in the Ishikawa prefecture in Japan. A bunch of these grapes can cost you about $4,000.

Taiyo no Tamago Mangoes -$3,000 per pair (INR 1,80,000)

Taiyo no Tamago mangoes are also known as the ‘Egg of the Sun’ and are grown in Miyazaki prefecture in Japan. These mangoes are surprisingly common cultivars known as Irwin originating from Florida in the 1940s. A pair of these mangoes can cost about $3,000.

Pineapple from the Lost Garden of Heligan -$1,600 each (INR 96,000)

The most expensive pineapples in the world are those cultivated in the lost gardens of Heligan, England. These pineapples are grown with utmost care as more than 50 agriculture cultivators grow the crop in greenhouses heated with horse manure and straw. The style of cultivating this pineapple sets it apart. Lost Garden of Heligan is one of the most iconic botanical spots in the United Kingdom. The garden grows one of the best pineapple using natural fertilizers. Since pineapple pits are not usually normal in Europe, this particular pineapple from Heligan is rare and has a value of more than $1,500 on the market level. However, these beauties are not for sale yet and are consumed only by the staff working on the garden.

Square Watermelon price-$800 (INR 48,000)

Have you seen square watermelons? We are used to the big round ones, but square watermelons from Japan are grown in square containers that force them to grow square. Since 2014, they are usually exported. Each melon weighs 13 pounds. Japan is famous for its square watermelon when it comes to expensive fruits. This watermelon stands out among others due to its unique square shape. Most of these watermelons are not purchased to eat but to keep as souvenirs. A square watermelon can cost you around $800.

Sembikiya Queen Strawberries- $85 per pack of 12 (INR 5100)

Sembikiya strawberries are one of the most gorgeous-looking and sweet-tasting strawberries in the world and a single strawberry will cost you $2.75 per pound. Sembikiya Queen strawberry is an uncommonly crossbred variety of strawberries that are grown in Japan. These strawberries look precisely similar to each other with no disfigurement. A pack of twelve of these strawberries costs you about $85.

Dekopon Citrus -$80 per pack of six (INR 5085)

Dekopon is the seedless variant of Mandarin oranges and has been produced since 1972. It is mainly grown in Japan. Dekopon citrus is said to be the tastiest orange in the world. This orange is seedless with a hard coating over it. It is different from other oranges because of the swollen part at the top, which is considered as a sign of it being fresh and sweet. These oranges are a hybrid form of Mandarin oranges. Only products with a 1.0% citric level can be sold under the Dekopon trademark. Dekopon costs about $80 for a pack of six.

Sekai Ichi Apple-$21 each (INR1260)

Sekai Ichi means “world’s number one”; they celebrated the 40th anniversary of their cultivation in 2014. This apple is said to be a tastier variety that tends to melt in the mouth and is also larger in size. Sekai Ichi is a cultivar of apples which are initially grown in Japan. The orchards where they are grown are pollinated by hand using a tiny wand. They are later washed with honey and branded by hand to ensure they are blemish-free. It can cost you $21 per apple.

Buddha-Shaped Pear-$9 each (INR 540)

Yes, you guessed it; the fruit resembles the face of Buddha. These are made by a Chinese farmer who started growing pears in a mold that forced the fruit look like Buddha. This fruit is not easily available and it is also regarded as a magical fruit by the Chinese. These pears are rich in anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant nutrients just like any other pears. It costs about $9 dollars for each pear.
