Minor girl gang-raped for 8 months in Madhya Pradesh

Ground Report | New Delhi: Minor girl gang-raped; A 14 years old minor girl has been gang-raped in Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh here for the past nine months. Allegedly the girl's cousin along with his 4 other friends was continuously gang-raping the girl. The matter came to light when the victim gave birth to a baby girl and threw the newborn into a well in the village.

On 20 September, there was a sensation in the village after the dead body of a newborn was found in a well near the Hanuman temple of Kadwaya village. The police reached the information of the villagers, took out the newborn and registered a case, and started an investigation.

During the investigation, it was found that a 14-year-old girl from the village had given birth to the baby. After this, the police took the girl into custody and interrogated her. The girl narrated the whole ordeal. The police have sent the girl to the Children's Observation Home.

Four of her friends, including her cousin and two minors, have been arrested for gang rape under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO).

Cousin frequent visitor

Ashok Nagar Superintendent of Police Raghuvansh Bhadauria said that the police came to know about her gang rape only after her arrest on the charge of murder. “Two days ago, the police recovered the body of a girl child in a well. During the investigation, the police came to know that a 14-year-old girl gave birth to him and threw him in the well. Police arrested him under section 302 (murder) of IPC,” said Raghuvansh Bhadauria.

Bhadauria said the girl was mostly alone in her village house and her 21-year-old cousin was a frequent visitor. One day when she had a stomach ache, she told her cousin that she might be pregnant. He took her to quacks. "The quackery doctor confirmed the pregnancy and also prescribed pills to abort the child… She gave birth to a premature baby at home… Later, the prime accused helped her to throw the child into the well",” said the district SP.
