Ground Report | New Delhi: Mehbooba Mufti; PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has said that the process of dialogue initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the mainstream leaders of Jammu and Kashmir should be considered as the end of the "oppressive era" in the Union Territory and this understanding. Former Chief Minister Mufti said on Sunday, "Give people the right to live in peace, peace will come after that." Told a step towards an end to the "woes" of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to news agency PTI, Mehbooba, who was part of the delegation, made it clear that it is in the hands of the Center to make the process of talks credible. Mehbooba said, "By letting people live in peace, I mean that today any dissenting party runs the risk of being imprisoned. Recently a man was jailed for expressing his sentiment that he had high expectations from a Kashmiri adviser. The concerned Deputy Commissioner ensured that he is kept in jail for a few days despite getting bail from the court.

Mehbooba said that when the Prime Minister says that he wants to erase the 'distress of the heart', then this kind of repression should end immediately. In the historic meeting, the Prime Minister had said that he wants to erase the "distance of the heart" along with the "distance of Delhi" to bring the people of Jammu and Kashmir closer to Delhi.

The PDP chief said, "All cruel laws have to be stopped to reduce heart's distance with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Jobs and land rights have to be protected." She said, "First and foremost, this oppressive era should end and the government should understand that dissent is not a criminal act. The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir and I would call it only one state which has become a jail.

Mehbooba, the last Chief Minister of the then state of Jammu and Kashmir, said, "Since the invitation came from the Prime Minister, I took it as an opportunity to highlight the suffering of the people after August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was scrapped.
