MDH owner Dharampal Gulati passes away at 98

Mahashya Dharmapal Gulati, the owner of the country's spice company Mahasia Di Hatti (MDH), has passed away. He breathed his last at 5.38 in the morning due to heart attack after recovering from Corona.

He was conferred the Padma Bhushan by President Ram Nath kovind last year for his outstanding contribution to business and industry. Gulati was born on March 27, 1923 in Sialkot (Pakistan).

Expressing grief over the demise of Dharmapala Gulati, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh wrote, "I feel saddened by the death of one of India's most respected businessmen, Mahasri Dharmapalji."

He made a mark despite starting from a small business. He was very active in social work and remained active till the last moment. I express my condolences to his family.

The spice business grew slowly and today they have 18 spice factories in India and Dubai. One special thing is that he also used to advertise his spices on his own. He was considered the oldest advertising star in the world.

After partition in 1947, Dharampal Gulati moved to India and stayed at a refugee camp in Amritsar. He then moved to Delhi and opened a store in Delhi's Karol Bagh. Gulati officially established the company in 1959.

Kejriwal's deputy Manish Sisodia also paid his tributes to the late MDH owner and called him the country's "most inspiring entrepreneur". "India's most inspiring entrepreneur, MDH owner Dharm Pal Mahashay passed away this morning. I have never met such an inspiring and lively soul. May his soul rest in peace," he said in a tweet.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal too called him a “very inspiring personality. He dedicated his life for the society. God bless his soul”.
