Mahant of Dasna accepted comment made on Prophet Muhammad

Ground Report | New Delhi: Mahant Yati Narsimhanand Saraswati has admitted during interrogation that he had made "remarks on Prophet Muhammad SAW". According to the Indian Express, the questioning of Mahant Narasimhanand was done in connection with a press conference held in Delhi in April. During the interrogation that lasted for about two and a half hours, Mahant also claimed that people "misunderstood" him.

Yeti Narasimhanand is the Mahant of a temple in Dasna, Ghaziabad. This temple came into the limelight in March when a video of a Muslim child being beaten up for drinking water from a tap here went viral. Mahant Yeti Narasimhanand Saraswati had said at that time that he had no regrets over this incident.

The Indian Express has quoted the Delhi Police as saying that after the video of a press conference held in the Press Club on April 1 went viral, the police had registered a case taking cognizance of the matter itself.

In the video, Mahant was 'saying derogatory things against Islam and the Prophet Muhammad'. Delhi Police spokesperson Chinmoy Biswal said that the first inquiry, in this case, was done by the investigating officer. He was then questioned again by a three-member team led by an ACP rank officer.

According to the police, when Mahant Narasimhanand Saraswati was asked about the statement made at the Press Club, "Saraswati admitted that he had made this statement but claimed that people misunderstood him and his intentions were misinterpreted."

According to the police, the video of Mahant's statement was to be sent for forensic examination, but when Mahant accepted that the statement was true, the police decided not to conduct the investigation.
