Continuous rains have caused havoc in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. The heavy downpour since Sunday night has not given any respite. Residents have faced considerable inconvenience in carrying out their daily activities due to severe waterlogging in certain areas of the city. Lucknow Airport in Uttar Pradesh recorded 94mm Rainfall till 8:30 a.m.
This occurrence was "never seen before" for many Lucknow residents. Lightning, a natural electrical discharge during storms, is usually jagged and unpredictable. However, this heart-shaped lightning bolt was a unique and rare event that captured the attention of those who witnessed it.
Unusual display of lightning in Lucknow
The unusual display of lightning occurred during a recent bout of heavy monsoon rains in the region. Those who saw it certainly were left with an impression, although no significant damage was reported due to the lightning itself. Some people took to social media to share their experiences and photographs of the heart-shaped lightning, which quickly became a topic of conversation online.
On Monday, Surya Pal Gangwar, the Lucknow DM, issued a directive to close all schools, from grades 1 to 12, in both rural and urban areas. This decision aims to ensure the safety of children during adverse weather conditions.
According to netizens, intense rain showers and menacing lightning persisted throughout the night. People even took to Twitter (now known as X) to share visuals of the overnight thunderstorm that struck the city. Have a look.
Heart-shaped lightning surprises Lucknow
The Zonal Meteorological Centre states that lightning along with thunder may occur at one or two places in entire Uttar Pradesh on 12, 13, and 14 September. During this period, certain places in Western UP may experience rain and thundershowers, while numerous places in Eastern UP may experience them as well.
On September 15, rain may occur at one or two places in Western Uttar Pradesh and some places in Purvanchal. The state will also witness similar weather on September 16, with the possibility of thunderstorms and showers.
District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar closed all the schools in districts on Monday morning as the meteorological department predicted more rains. The DM office issued a warning to the residents that no one should come out of home without any essential work. Today, there is a possibility of more rains with lightning and thunderstorms. The warning advises to avoid standing under trees or weak buildings.
