Love Jihad’ Bill in Madhya Pradesh soon, five years jail for violators

Madhya Pradesh government will soon bring a law regarding love jihad. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said that a law will be brought against Love Jihad in the coming assembly session. It will be a non-bailable offense and will have a sentence of five years.

Narottam Mishra said, Madhya Pradesh is preparing to introduce the 'Freedom of Religion Bill, 2020' in the Assembly. It will provide for rigorous imprisonment of five years. We are also proposing that such offenses be declared cognizable and non-bailable offenses. 

He said, the upcoming assembly session is going to be important, because the state government will introduce a bill for the freedom of religion law on love jihad. After the bill becomes law, the accused will be sentenced to five years of imprisonment under non-bailable sections. 

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister said, "Those who cooperate in the crime of love jihad will also have the provision of punishment like the main accused." Apart from this, provision will also be made to punish those who forcibly convert for marriage. 

He said, if someone wants to convert by voluntary marriage and get married, he has to submit an application in this regard to the Collector office a month in advance. Mishra said, "After the introduction of this law, marriage by force, forceful marriage to someone will be considered cancelled." 

Earlier, the Chief Minister of the state, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, has also said about Love Jihad that it will be strictly dealt with if such cases come up in the state. The Chief Minister had directed the officials to prepare a blueprint of the law. 

Politics has now started in Madhya Pradesh regarding this bill. Congress MLA Kunal Choudhary said that the government should make a million claims for the safety of women, but despite this, the maximum number of crimes occurred in his government in Madhya Pradesh. The state government should enact strict laws on women's crimes and the Home Minister should answer this.
