Ground Report | New Delhi: List of Hajjis released; Saudi Arabia has released a list of 60 thousand people whose names have been selected for performing Hajj this year. The Saudi Press Agency said on Thursday, citing the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of Saudi Arabia.

According to Al Arabiya News, the ministry has said that among the people who have been allowed for Hajj, there are people from 150 countries. These people live in Saudi Arabia. This time, the facility of an online portal was provided for those who wanted Haj to file their applications.

A total of 558,270 people had filled their applications. Among the applicants, 59% were males, and 41% females. Many things have been kept in mind while selecting the eligible candidates for Hajj. Like their age and whether they have ever done Hajj before or not.

Apart from this, special care has also been taken off the Covid protocol, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Because of the Corona epidemic, Saudi Arabia announced in June that only 60 thousand people would be allowed for this year's Hajj. This permission would also be given only to those who live in Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah has appealed to all those selected to perform Haj to take a second dose of the Covid vaccine. These people will be able to take the second dose of the vaccine without having to make an appointment in advance.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has made it clear that the pilgrims will be taken to Mecca by bus on the 7th and 8th of Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.

Last year, the government of Saudi Arabia also decided to limit the number of people performing Hajj given the coronavirus, and only people living in Saudi Arabia were allowed to perform Hajj.

For the first time in history, Hajj was performed in 629 AD (Six Hijri, Islamic calendar) under the leadership of Muhammad. After that Hajj continued to be performed every year.

However, Muslims cannot even imagine that Hajj will not be able to take place in some year. But despite this, it has happened about 40 times in history when Hajj could not be performed and many times 'Khana-e-Kaba' remained closed for Hajis.

There were many reasons for this, ranging from attacks on Baitullah (sacred site) to political disputes, epidemics, floods, thieves and bandits looting convoys of pilgrims, and bad weather.
