Ground Report | New Delhi: List of politicians Who joined TMC; On Thursday, former Meghalaya chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma and 11 other Congress MLAs formally declared their merger with the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). “We have decided to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after much consideration,” former CM Mukul Sangma announced in Shillong on Thursday.

The Congress has been dealt a major setback in north-east Meghalaya, where 12 of its 17 MLAs have defected to TMC. H M Shangpliang, who is among the defecting MLAs said: "Twelve MLAs of the Congress out of 17 in Meghalaya have decided to join the TMC. We will formally join the TMC under the leadership of former CM Mukul Sangma”. (List of politicians Who joined TMC)

Sangma said he made the choice to switch allegiance to Mamata Banerjee's party after "exhaustive due diligence and analysis about how best to serve the people." He added: “…collectively demonstrated our commitment. Commitment towards the state has superseded everything else. We are failing in our duty as far as the role of the opposition is concerned.”

• Abhijeet Mukherji- Son of Pranab Mukherji, Former MP
• Yashwant Sinha- BJP leader
• Soumen Roy- BJP MLA from Kaliganj
• Biswajit Das- BJP MLABJP councillor
• Manotosh Nath- BJP councillor

• Sabyasachi Dutta- BJP leader returns to TMC

This recent development is a major boost for West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who has been trying to expand her party's footprint beyond her native state.
