Thousands of farmers from the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) and other groups like Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) are marching to Delhi today (December 2) to demand compensation and benefits under the revised agricultural laws.
Led by BKP leader Sukhbir Khalifa, farmers began their march from under the Maha Maya flyover in Noida at noon. “We are prepared for our march to Delhi to demand compensation and benefits in line with the new agricultural laws,” Khalifa stated.
Key demands
The protesting farmers want:
-
A 10% allocation of developed plots under the previous land acquisition law.
-
A 64.7% compensation hike, equating to four times the market rate for acquired land.
-
20% plot allocation for land acquired post-January 1, 2014.
-
Employment and rehabilitation benefits for landless farmers’ children.
-
Implementation of High Power Committee directives on rehabilitation and resettlement of affected families.
Farmers from 20 districts—including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Agra, Aligarh, and Bulandshahr—are marching to highlight their issues during the Winter Session of Parliament.
Increased security at Delhi-Noida border
Ahead of the march, Delhi and Gautam Buddh Nagar police have heightened security at the Delhi-Noida border. Barricades are up at key entry points to prevent farmers from entering the capital. Police have rerouted traffic and intensified vehicle checks to minimize disruptions.
To manage potential congestion, Noida authorities issued a traffic advisory. Key routes like the Yamuna Expressway, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, and Surajpur face restrictions for heavy goods vehicles. Commuters are encouraged to use alternative routes or the metro.
Alternate Routes:
-
Chilla Border to Greater Noida: Use Sector 14-A flyover, proceed via Golchakkar in Sector-15.
-
DND Border to Delhi: Take the Film City flyover and Sector-18 route.
-
Kalindi Border to Delhi: Travel via the Mahamaya flyover and Sector-37.
Farmers previously protested outside the Greater Noida Authority and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority offices, demanding justice for those displaced by land acquisition. They are now taking their grievances to Delhi to ensure their voices are heard in Parliament.
To minimize traffic disruptions, the Noida traffic police recommend using the metro. Emergency vehicles will be prioritized, and a traffic helpline (9971009001) is available for assistance.
