Indore will soon get a new green space called Bharat Van, to be developed over 36 acres of open land in the city’s central Pologround area. Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav announced the plan on Wednesday after visiting the site with senior citizens, environmentalists, municipal officers, and public representatives. The project aims to turn the entire area into a 100% greenery-based zone.

What is Bharat Van?

Bharat Van will be a forest park that showcases plants, trees, and wildlife from different parts of India. It will feature native flora and fauna from various states, a large pond, dedicated bird habitats, and public spaces designed for peace and relaxation. The park is planned along the Kanh river in the Pologround area, which currently lacks green cover and has a low groundwater level.

The central part of Indore lacks large parks and has very little greenery. It also suffers from low groundwater levels. The new Bharat Van is planned as a forest that will act like the city’s lungs, improving air quality and offering a clean, healthy space for residents. A large pond will also be built to help recharge the water table and support local ecosystems.

Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav recently shared his thoughts on the City Forest project on social media,

“After inspecting the fully equipped City Forest site being developed in the country’s cleanest city, I gave necessary directions to the officers. Certainly, this City Forest will become a center of attraction for the city dwellers in the coming times, with proper bird habitat, butterfly garden, Miyawaki method plantations, aquatic structures, and proper parking facilities.”

He also highlighted the support shown by local representatives, including Abhishek Bablu Sharma, Rajendra Rathore, Bharat Parikh, Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma, and several municipal officers and environment enthusiasts.

What will it include?

Bharat Van will showcase trees, plants, and wildlife from different states of India. The plan includes special zones for bird habitats and efforts to protect biodiversity. It will be developed as a peaceful space for citizens to connect with nature. Officials say it will also become a natural attraction for locals and visitors.

The Indore Municipal Corporation will lead the development. Mayor Bhargav said the project is based on public feedback and will begin in three months. He called it a major gift to the people of Indore.

When will work begin?

Construction of Bharat Van is expected to start three months from now. The mayor confirmed that the area will be completely converted into a green zone and will feature a large pond. He added that Bharat Van will become an important public space, offering environmental and health benefits to the entire city
