In the second week of January, Madhya Pradesh experienced a sharp dip in temperature due to icy winds, causing severe cold in major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain. Temperatures have dropped by 2 to 3 degrees in many parts, impacting normal life. Cold waves, fog, and reduced visibility have affected daily activities.
Weather in major cities
Theweather in the state remained dry in the last 24 hours, but there was no major change in the minimum temperature in various districts across Madhya Pradesh. However, certain districts such as Kalyanpur (Shahdol), Rewa, Mandla, and Amarkantak recorded temperatures below normal. In contrast, the rest of the state saw temperatures in the normal range. The lowest temperatures recorded in Madhya Pradesh on the night of January 12 were 4.5°C in Kalyanpur, 5.0°C in Rewa, and 5.4°C in Mandla. These chilly conditions have made life difficult for the residents, especially those in rural and semi-urban areas, where heating options are limited.
The cold wave has significantly impacted key cities of Madhya Pradesh. In Bhopal, which is typically known for milder winters, the temperature dropped to 8.5°C, a substantial dip. The situation is similar in other big cities, including Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain, which have all experienced freezing colds due to the ongoing weather pattern.

Weather forecast and cold wave
The weather forecast predicts rain, thunderstorms, and hail in Central India. Madhya Pradesh will have cloud cover and rain in many districts, especially in the west. The IMD warned of thunderstorms and lightning in eastern plains. After the rain, temperatures will drop further, with the last 15 days of January expected to be extremely cold. Dense fog is anticipated in Gwalior, Chambal, Bhind, and Morena.
