The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave to severe heatwave conditions for parts of North India until May 27. In contrast, heavy rainfall is expected in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, prompting the issuance of red and orange alerts in these states.
The northern and central regions of India continue to endure a relentless heatwave, with no immediate relief in sight. According to the IMD, most parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh will experience heatwave conditions. Additionally, isolated pockets in Delhi are also likely to be affected by the heatwave.
On May 23, 2024, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed over many parts of West Rajasthan and isolated pockets of East Rajasthan. Heat wave conditions were also reported in some parts of Gujarat and isolated pockets of West Madhya Pradesh.
IMD advises residents of the affected regions to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions in light of the approaching cyclonic storm and prevailing heat wave conditions.
