Overall coal production in October 2024 touches 84.45 million tonne

The Ministry of Coal reported a notable increase in coal production and dispatches in October 2024, with production reaching 84.45 MT and dispatches at 82.89 MT, driven by strong output from captive and other entities.

The Ministry of Coal has recorded significant growth in coal production and dispatches for October 2024, underscoring its commitment to meeting India’s energy requirements. The total coal production for October 2024 reached an impressive 84.45 million tonnes (MT), surpassing the 78.57 MT produced in October 2023. This represents a year-on-year increase of 7.48%.

Production from captive and other mining entities demonstrated exceptional growth, totaling 16.59 MT in October 2024 compared to 11.70 MT in October 2023, marking a remarkable growth rate of 41.75%. The cumulative coal production for the fiscal year up to October 2024 stood at 537.45 MT, an increase from 506.56 MT during the same period in the previous fiscal year (2023-24), reflecting a 6.10% rise.

In addition to production, coal dispatches experienced a robust increase. Total coal dispatches in October 2024 reached 82.89 MT, showing a 4.60% growth over the 79.25 MT dispatched in October 2023. Captive and other mining entities contributed 16.18 MT to October 2024’s coal dispatch, up from 11.83 MT in October 2023, which represents a growth of 36.83%. Cumulative dispatches for FY 2024-25 up to October hit 571.39 MT, a 5.52% increase from the 541.51 MT recorded during the corresponding period of FY 2023-24.

The Ministry of Coal affirmed its commitment to maintaining a consistent and reliable coal supply to support the nation’s energy needs. Efforts are ongoing to enhance coal production, optimize logistics, and bolster the country's energy objectives.

“Production from captive and other entities rose significantly in October, signaling the Ministry's focused strategy to meet growing energy demands,” a Ministry spokesperson said.
