The winter chill in Madhya Pradesh is subsiding, and as February begins, severe cold is unlikely. Meteorologists say nights will remain cold, but days will be warm with temperatures exceeding 30°C in many cities. The first week of February will see cloudy skies, with a chance of drizzle between the 12th and 14th. By the end of the month, the cold weather will diminish.
February weather forecast
Senior Meteorologist Dr. Vedprakash Singh reports an active but weak Western Disturbance, unlikely to cause significant rainfall in the first week. Night temperatures might drop slightly, but cold will reduce in the second week. The final week of February will see an increase in day and night temperatures.
Analyzing a decade of weather data, February in Madhya Pradesh features warm days, cold nights, and sporadic rainfall.
Cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain often record maximum temperatures above 30°C, while minimum temperatures range from 10 to 14°C. Gwalior typically experiences the coldest nights, with past records showing minimum temperatures below 5°C.
Recent cold waves & temperature trends
The winter of 2023-24 had intense cold spells in November and December, breaking records. Bhopal saw its coldest temperatures in 36 years, while Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Gwalior recorded temperatures 7 degrees below normal.
December continued the trend, with temperatures dipping lower than in January. The prolonged cold spell led to changes in school schedules and special arrangements to protect animals from extreme cold.
