“I felt uncomfortable due to the heat during the rally in Pusad, Maharashtra. But now I am completely fine and am leaving for Varud to attend the next meeting. Thank you for your love and good wishes,” he wrote on X.
During a speech delivery in Yavatmal's Pusad, the sitting MP from Nagpur suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed on stage. His party supporters swiftly responded, splashing water on his face and carrying him away from the podium. Immediate medical assistance was sought, and he is presently receiving treatment.
Notably, Gadkari was campaigning for the BJP-Mahayuti candidate Rajashree Patil, representing the Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha constituency. Patil is aligned with the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections, spanning from April 19 to June 1, are set to be the largest in history, with seven phases to elect 543 members. Vote counting will occur on June 4, with results to follow.
This election surpasses the 2019 polls in scale, lasting 44 days, second only to the 1951-52 elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third consecutive term.
Nearly 970 million eligible voters out of India's 1.4 billion population are set to participate in this democratic exercise.
