Madhya Pradesh weather: Rising temperatures & hotter days ahead

Madhya Pradesh’s weather was dry across all divisions on Sunday, with temperatures rising by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius compared to Saturday. The increase pushed temperatures above normal levels in most parts of the state.

The lowest recorded temperature was 10°C in Shahdol, while Barwani saw the highest at 37.8°C. Bhopal, Indore, and Ratlam experienced around 35°C, whereas Khandwa had the warmest night with a minimum of 20°C.

Weather trends in five major cities

In the last 24 hours, temperatures in Bhopal, Rewa, Jabalpur, Shahdol, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Narmadapuram were 2 to 3 degrees above normal. The Meteorological Department predicts similar conditions on Monday, with temperatures rising further in the coming days.

The Meteorological Department forecasts rising temperatures across the state, with a 2 to 4 degrees Celsius increase soon. Major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur expect a 2 to 5-degree rise in day and night temperatures. A heatwave is predicted in some Madhya Pradesh areas from mid-March.

A new Western Disturbance became active on March 9, slowing down cold northern winds. As a result, temperatures are rising, signaling the end of the cold season. Mild cold will persist until Holi, but daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to rise significantly afterward.

48-hour weather forecast

Due to shifting wind patterns, temperatures are set to rise further. Strong sunlight during the day will intensify the heat, while nights will remain slightly cool for the next 48 hours. Post-Holi, many districts may experience cloudy skies and light drizzle, contributing to a quick temperature rise.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for eight states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Some areas may reach temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher. Central India, including Madhya Pradesh, is expected a 3 to 5-degree rise in temperatures over the next five days, increasing the chances of a heatwave.

Ratlam was the hottest district in the last 24 hours, with temperatures exceeding 37°C. Other high readings include 36.8°C in Narmadapuram, 36.5°C in Ujjain, 36°C in Mandla, and 35.2°C in Indore. Meanwhile, Pachmarhi was the coldest, with a minimum temperature of 10.6°C.

Air quality in MP

Madhya Pradesh’s air quality has changed. Sagar recorded the cleanest air with an AQI of 74, marking it as one of the few cities with good air quality. In contrast, Indore’s air quality declined, with an AQI of 177. Other cities reported AQI levels of 86 in Jabalpur, 109 in Bhopal, and 148 in Gwalior.

With rising temperatures, Madhya Pradesh residents should prepare for warmer days ahead.
