Madhya Pradesh to witness rain and storms on Rangpanchami

Half of Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive rainfall on Rangpanchami, March 19. The Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain divisions will be cloudy with light drizzle, while heavy storms and rain are predicted for Jabalpur, Gwalior, Chambal, Narmadapuram, Rewa, Sagar, and Shahdol divisions. The changing weather is due to an active weather system, and wind speeds may reach 50 km per hour.

Recent weather activity

In the past five days, light rain has been recorded in several districts. In the last 24 hours, Panna, Tikamgarh, Satna, Maihar, Singrauli, Damoh, Sagar, Vidisha, Jabalpur, and Chhatarpur experienced light showers. Wind speeds reached 39 km/h in Singrauli, 37 km/h in Sagar, and 36 km/h in Panna. The temperature in many cities, including Bhopal, dropped by over 3 degrees on Monday.

• March 18: Cloudy with chances of drizzle in eastern parts of the state.

• March 19: Thunderstorms and rain are likely in Jabalpur, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Narsinghpur, and other districts.

• March 20: Strong storms, thunder, and rain are expected in Jabalpur, Sheopur, Shivpuri, and Vidisha.

• March 21: Rain and thunderstorms may continue in Gwalior, Jabalpur, Morena, Sheopur, Datia, and other districts.

Current weather changes are due to two cyclonic circulations and an active western disturbance, influencing rainfall across the state from March 19 onwards.

Heatwave expected month-end

The Meteorological Department predicts rising temperatures in the state by late March. Heatwaves are expected in April and May, with temperatures possibly exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in several cities. Some areas may experience hot winds for up to 35 days, making April and May the hottest months.

• Bhopal: March often brings heat and rain. The highest temperature was 41 degrees on March 30, 2021.

• Indore: The highest March temperature was 41.1 degrees on March 28, 1892. The city also experiences occasional dust storms.

• Gwalior: The city has seen temperature extremes, from 41.8 degrees in March 2022 to 5.4 degrees in March 1972.

• Jabalpur: Nights in March are cool, with average temperatures around 15 degrees. Rainfall has been recorded in 9 of the last 10 years.

• Ujjain: The hottest March temperature was 42.5 degrees in 2010. The city also sees occasional rainfall.

On Monday, Sagar and Bhopal divisions had rain, while other parts of the state remained dry. Most areas’ temperatures dropped by 2 to 3 degrees. The lowest temperature of 23.5 degrees was recorded in Dewas, while Mandla had the highest at 38.5 degrees.

Air quality in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh’s air quality is changing. Maihar had the best air quality with an AQI of 68, while Gwalior had the highest AQI of 123. Jabalpur (95), Bhopal (99), and Indore (114) remained in the moderate category.
