Madhya Pradesh is witnessing a temperature surge, surpassing 37 degrees Celsius in numerous cities. According to the Meteorological Department, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Ujjain will see temperatures around 38-39°C. Khajuraho, Ratlam, Khargone, and Narmadapuram may see even higher temperatures.
On Thursday night, the weather suddenly changed in Morena, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Hailstorms were reported. At the Jayeshwar fair in Ambah, tin sheds on temporary shops, injuring over 12 people. Some weak mud houses collapsed. More than 25 injured people, including women and children, were rushed to Ambah Hospital, where doctors treated them using mobile torches due to a power failure. Seriously injured were sent to the district hospital for better treatment.
Holi Weather Trends Over the Years
Holi is on March 14 this year. Typically, the heat intensifies in late March, but this year, due to southwestern winds, the temperature has risen earlier. In the past decade, Holi has often been celebrated after March 15, with some years seeing extreme heat. In 2021, Bhopal’s Holi temperature was around 41 degrees Celsius. This year, Bhopal is expected to reach 38 degrees, Indore possibly hitting 40. Ujjain, Gwalior, and Jabalpur will also experience higher temperatures.

March 20 onward: Minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 3-4 degrees above normal, reaching 20-23°C in Indore and 19-21°C elsewhere. Maximum temperatures will reach 34-38°C statewide, 2-4 degrees higher than usual. Due to a Western Disturbance and southeastern winds, some eastern and southern regions may experience cloudy skies, light rain, and thunderstorms.
Extreme Heat Expected in April and May
The Meteorological Department predicts April and May will be the hottest months. Temperatures may exceed 45°C in Gwalior, Chambal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar. Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram divisions will also experience intense heat.
March Brings a Mix of All Seasons
Historically, March in Madhya Pradesh has mixed weather, with cold nights, hot days, and occasional rain. Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain have recorded daytime temperatures above 40 degrees, while nights can be 10-17 degrees Celsius. Gwalior has experienced temperature swings, with nighttime lows of 8 degrees, while Jabalpur sees hot days and cool nights.
