A Western Disturbance is causing this shift. Currently active over Afghanistan, it’s moving towards western India. However, before the rain arrives, the state will continue to experience hot weather.

Bhopal, like Indore, Ujjain, and Gwalior, saw bright sunshine on Friday. However, temperatures dropped statewide. Bhopal’s temperature fell by 3.8 degrees to 34.9 degrees Celsius. Guna dropped 4.4 degrees to 35.8 degrees, Gwalior’s decreased by 4.5 degrees to 35 degrees. Indore recorded 33.7 degrees after a 3.9-degree drop, and Ujjain dropped 2.5 degrees to 35.5 degrees.

Despite the overall drop in temperatures, some cities recorded high temperatures: Narmadapuram (40.7°C), Tikamgarh (40°C), Seoni (39.4°C), Mandla (39°C), Khargone (38.6°C), Damoh, Khandwa, Malajkhand (Balaghat) (38.5°C), Khajuraho (Chhatarpur) (38.4°C), and Narsinghpur-Umaria (38.2°C). Jabalpur recorded 38.3°C. The drop is due to increased wind speed, according to the Meteorological Department.

A heat wave is likely to hit Madhya Pradesh in April due to Western Disturbance activity. Malwa-Nimar regions, including Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Khargone, Khandwa, and Dhar, may experience severe heat. A heat wave occurs when the temperature rises above 40°C or is 4.6°C higher than normal.

Summer has begun, and the next four months will be extremely hot. The Meteorological Department predicts 15-20 days of heat waves between March and May. April and May will be harsh, with hot winds for 30-35 days.

The upcoming weather forecast indicates a slight drop in temperatures. On March 29, day and night temperatures may fall by 2-3 degrees. On March 30, temperatures may remain around 38°C in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Gwalior.

Weather patterns in five major cities highlight trends of heat, cold, and occasional rain. In Bhopal, March usually brings intense heat with occasional rainfall. The highest recorded temperature was 41°C on March 30, 2021, while March 9, 1979, saw a record low of 6.1°C.

Indore experiences rising heat from March, with a highest temperature of 41.1°C on March 28, 1892. The coldest night was March 4, 1898, at 5°C. March typically brings 2-3 days of rain.

Gwalior has fluctuating weather, with a record high of 41.8°C on March 31, 2022, and a low of 5.4°C on March 1, 1972. Over 5 inches of rain fell in March 2015.

Jabalpur’s nights are cool at 15°C, while daytime temperatures range between 36-40°C. March 31, 2017, recorded a high of 41.2°C, while March 4, 1898, saw a low of 3.3°C. The city has experienced rainfall in 9 of the past 10 years.

Extreme heat is expected in the coming months, and residents should prepare for rising temperatures and possible heat waves.
