IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alerts and Advisories for Affected Areas

A weather advisory has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), suggesting the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in multiple regions in the upcoming days. Important highlights include:

Areas Affected

  • Northeast India: On October 11 and 12, there will be a lot of rain predicted in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya.

  • West India: After sporadic light to moderate rainfall on October 11, isolated heavy rainfall is predicted in Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat.

  • Coastal Areas: Fishermen in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra are advised to be prepared for gusty weather with wind speeds ranging from 35 to 55 kmph. 

  • Current Weather: According to the IMD, there has been heavy to extremely heavy rain in several areas, including Tamil Nadu, Konkan & Goa, and portions of Andhra Pradesh, over the last 24 hours. 

  • Low-Pressure System: By October 13th, it is expected that a clearly defined low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea would deepen into a depression.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings

Regarding heavy rainfall and associated impacts. Here are the key alerts by IMD:

  • Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, and Rayalaseema on October 11th, 14th, and 15th.

  • Significant precipitation is anticipated in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on October 11th, 14th, and 15th.

Impact Projection:

  • Localized inundation of roadways and water accumulation in low-lying areas, especially within metropolitan locales.

  • Intermittent visual impairment and traffic inconvenience resulting from waterlogging.

  • Insignificant damage to unpaved roads and possible localized landslides or mudslides.

  • Destruction of horticulture and standing crops caused by flooding and wind.

Advisory for Fishermen: 

  • Fishermen are cautioned against entering the sea due to turbulent weather conditions, with wind gusts hitting 55 km/h in certain coastal regions.
