The heat is back in Madhya Pradesh. From April 16, a heatwave will begin affecting many parts of the state. The most affected areas will be Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Chambal divisions. Before the rise in temperature, light rain is expected today in some eastern districts including Shahdol, Anuppur, Dindori, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, and Chhindwara.
According to the Meteorological Department, heat will intensify across Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, and Narmadapuram divisions. Day temperatures here may cross 40 degrees Celsius. On Monday, different weather conditions were seen in the state. While clouds and light drizzle were reported in parts of Seoni, Chhindwara, Balaghat, Pandhurna, and Betul, other regions faced rising heat. Ratlam recorded the highest temperature of the day at 42 degrees Celsius.
Cities like Shajapur and Dhar saw 41 degrees, while Khandwa recorded 40.5 degrees and Narmadapuram touched 40 degrees. Ujjain was the hottest among major cities at 41 degrees. Bhopal recorded 39.5 degrees, Indore 39.7, Gwalior 37.5, and Jabalpur 36.8 degrees Celsius.
On April 16, similar mixed weather is expected. While some eastern districts may receive light showers, 11 districts are under a heatwave alert. The heat is likely to continue through April 17 and 18. In the third week of April, the minimum temperature in cities like Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, Rewa, and Narmadapuram is expected to stay around 25 to 27 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures may remain between 42 and 44 degrees. A heatwave may persist for two to three days, with occasional rain.
By the fourth week, nights will also turn warmer. Minimum temperatures could stay 3 to 4 degrees above normal, ranging from 27 to 30 degrees. Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, and Rewa divisions may touch 43 to 45 degrees, while other areas including Indore, Ujjain, and Bhopal may hover between 41 to 44 degrees. A cyclonic system over Bengal is likely to support heatwave conditions in the final days of April.
The first and second weeks of April have already seen fluctuations between intense heat and rain. Early April brought above-normal minimum temperatures in all divisions. Maximums in Indore, Sagar, and Narmadapuram crossed 44 degrees. Ujjain, Bhopal, and Gwalior recorded 41 to 42 degrees. Ratlam faced heatwave conditions in the first week. The second week was marked by rain, thunderstorms, and hail in 80 percent of the state, though some districts continued to reel under heat.
Heatwave conditions are expected to dominate late April and May. According to weather officials, Madhya Pradesh could see hot winds for 30 to 35 days in April and May. A heatwave could occur for 15 to 20 days by the end of May. Past data shows that temperatures in late April often break records in major cities.
