The heat is increasing across Madhya Pradesh. While cities in the western and northern parts like Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Chambal had already seen rising temperatures, now the eastern districts are also heating up. Places like Sagar, Singrauli, Rewa, and Sidhi have started recording higher temperatures.
On Sunday, 23 cities crossed 40 degrees Celsius. Sidhi was the hottest with 44.2 degrees. Tikamgarh followed with 43.4 degrees, Khajuraho recorded 43.2 degrees, Shivpuri reached 43 degrees, and both Naugaon and Rewa touched 42.5 degrees.
The Meteorological Department reported that many districts remained above 40 degrees on Sunday. Bhopal recorded 40.6 degrees, Indore 39.4, Gwalior 41.2, and Ujjain 39.2. This has been the hottest spell of the season so far. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at 21.1 degrees in Barwani, while Shivpuri saw the highest temperature at 44.0 degrees on the same day.
Air quality in Madhya Pradesh also showed mixed results. Maihar reported the cleanest air in the state with an AQI of 96, falling in the ‘good’ category. Gwalior, on the other hand, saw a sharp rise in pollution, with an AQI of 161.
Other cities like Jabalpur, Indore, and Bhopal recorded AQI levels of 136, 139, and 151 respectively. According to the Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Maihar maintained normal air conditions, making it the city with the lowest AQI on Sunday.
While many parts of the state baked under the heat, a few areas received light rainfall. Districts in Shahdol division reported a change in weather with cloudy skies and drizzle. Benibari in Anuppur recorded 14.1 mm of rainfall, and Amarkantak saw 7 mm.
The forecast for Monday suggests mostly dry weather, though some places may see cloud cover and light drizzle. On Sunday, Sidhi recorded the highest temperature of 44.2 degrees. Khajuraho, along with several other cities, also touched the 40 to 44-degree range.
In Bhopal, the daytime temperature was 40.6 degrees on Sunday, a slight drop of 0.6 degrees from Friday. The night temperature also fell by 2.2 degrees, settling at 24.2 degrees. Meteorologist Ved Prakash Singh noted that temperatures in Gwalior division were 4.1 degrees higher than normal.
Other major hotspots included Tikamgarh with 43.4 degrees, Khajuraho with 43.2, and Shivpuri with 43. Naugaon also touched 42.5 degrees.
In contrast, cooler places included Talun in Barwani with 21.1 degrees, Kalyanpur in Shahdol with 21.2, Malajkhand and Pachmarhi with 22.2, Amarkantak and Ujjain with 22.7, and Girwar in Shajapur with 22.8 degrees. Among the five major cities, Gwalior saw the highest maximum temperature at 41.2 degrees, followed by Bhopal at 40.6, Jabalpur at 40.4, Indore at 39.4, and Ujjain at 39.2 degrees.
