The cold wave sweeping across Madhya Pradesh continues to intensify, with the state experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures due to icy winds from North India. On Monday-Tuesday night, the minimum temperature in several districts plummeted, with Rajgarh recording the coldest temperature at 4.6°C. Cold wave conditions were reported in Bhopal, Sehore, Ratlam, and Shajapur, while 23 districts saw their night temperatures dip below 10°C.

Moderate to dense fog blanketed several areas, including Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli, Rajgarh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Satna, and Maihar. The lowest visibility of just 50 meters was reported in Satna, making travel hazardous. During the day, the lowest maximum temperature of 21°C was recorded in Jabalpur, further highlighting the severity of the cold conditions.

Weather experts predict rain

According to meteorologists, a western disturbance in the form of a cyclone has developed in the upper atmosphere near Iran, while a jet stream has formed over North India. These factors are expected to change the weather in Madhya Pradesh, bringing moisture-laden winds. From Wednesday onwards, cloud cover is likely to increase, and there may be light rain in some districts, including Gwalior, Chambal, Sagar, and Bhopal divisions.

Additionally, the night temperatures are expected to rise slightly during this period due to increased cloud cover and moisture.

The recorded minimum temperatures in key districts:

  • Rajgarh: 4.6°C

  • Pachmarhi: 4.7°C

  • Bhopal: 5.4°C

  • Ratlam: 6°C

  • Jabalpur: 6.6°C

  • Indore: 9.6°C

Maximum temperatures also remained low:

  • Bhopal: 23.4°C

  • Gwalior: 22.3°C

  • Indore: 23.7°C

  • Jabalpur: 21°C

Visibility due to dense fog dropped to around 200 meters in many areas, including Rewa, Naugaon, and Khajuraho, impacting daily life and travel.

Dense fog and cold wave alert

The weather department has issued warnings for several districts, predicting severe cold wave conditions and dense fog. Districts such as Bhopal, Sehore, Ratlam, Shajapur, Satna, Neemuch, Raisen, Dhar, Ujjain, Indore, Shahdol, and Balaghat are likely to experience extremely cold days.

Dense fog is expected to cover Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari, while moderate fog is predicted in Satna, Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, and Mauganj. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours when visibility is at its worst.

As the cold wave continues to grip Madhya Pradesh, residents are bracing for more frigid nights and foggy mornings. With rain and increased cloud cover predicted in parts of the state, slight relief from the biting cold might be on the horizon, but fog and cold conditions will persist for the next few days.
