SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna Schedule ‘A’ CPSU under the Ministry of Power, has commissioned its 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project, increasing its total installed capacity to 2,466.50 MW. The project, executed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a subsidiary of SJVN, is in the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park, Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, currently the largest floating solar park in India.

Developed at a cost of Rs 646.20 crore, the project is expected to generate 196.5 million units of energy in its first year, with an estimated cumulative generation of 4,629.3 million units over 25 years.

The project will boost SJVN’s revenue by Rs 64 crore and reduce 2.3 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions. It aligns with the government’s mission of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070 and aids water conservation by reducing evaporation. The project is the single largest grid-connected project on the water body to date.

In the first phase, a total of 278 MW floating solar power plants are being built on the Omkareshwar Dam. NHDC is developing an 88 MW plant, AMP Energy is constructing a 100 MW plant, and SJVN, a Schedule A CPSU under the Ministry of Power, has been allotted 90 MW.

The project was awarded at a tariff of Rs 3.26 per unit through competitive bidding by REWA Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) on a Build Own and Operate basis.

Omkareshwar Floating Solar commissioned capacity

The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park has increased its commissioned solar capacity to a total of 180 MW, with further development phases underway. The 600 MW floating power plant is being built in two phases. The first phase involves developing a 278 MW plant, with the rest to be built in the second phase.

The second phase of the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project aims to enhance the site's capacity to reach the 600 MW target. SJVN has secured rights to develop an additional 90 MW through competitive bidding, reflecting the growing interest in floating solar technology.

This 600 MW floating solar project is being developed on the backwaters of the Omkareshwar Dam in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh. With an investment of Rs 5,000 crore, the project will be completed in two phases and is being constructed under the Central Government's Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) scheme.

The project’s first phase is projected to generate 4,629.3 million units of energy over 25 years, with an annual output of 196.5 million units in the first year. It’s expected to reduce carbon emissions by 2.3 lakh tonnes and conserve water by minimizing reservoir evaporation.

SJVN has a project portfolio of 56,802.40 MW, with ongoing projects in the Hydro, Pumped Storage, Thermal, and Renewable Energy sectors.
