Eid-ul Fitr means the festival to end the fast, because this fast comes after the end of the month of Ramadan. Muslims around the world offer special prayers in the morning on the first day of Shawwal to mark the festival of Eid.

Eid-ul-Fitr date 2021 in India

According to traditions, Eid-ul-Fitr takes place on the first day of Shawwal. Since Ramadan began on April 13 this year, Eid-ul-Fitr will either be on May 13, if Ramadan month ends in 29 days, or on May 14, if Ramadan month ends in 30 days. 

However, the end of the month of Ramadan and the exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr depends on the sighting of the Crescent Moon. 

In most countries including India, there is a high-powered committee of clerics who decide the day of Eid ul Fitr. In India, the sighting of the Crescent Moon is announced by the Riyat-e-Hilal Committee.

The time and date of celebrating Eid depends from one country to another. Many countries celebrate Eid on the same day as it is celebrated in Saudi Arabia. 

However, Eid ul Fitr in India is celebrated on the second day of the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia, which means that Eid in India is celebrated the day after it was celebrated in the United Arab Emirates.
