Ground Report | New Delhi: Kerala Congress tweet controversy; Congress appears to be embroiled in a major controversy related to the movie 'The Kashmir Files'. The party's Kerala unit tweeted some "facts" about the Kashmiri Pandit problem.

Kerala Congress tweet controversy

The Kerala unit of the Congress, in a tweet, said: “It was the terrorists who targeted the Pandits. In 17 years (1990-2007), 399 Kashmiri Pandits were killed in terrorist attacks. The number of Muslims killed by terrorists in the same period was 15,000.”

The Kerala Congress has posted several tweets about the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress has kept some data on the issue of Kashmiri Pandit and through this has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, this gamble by Congress on social media backfired when Twitter users began to question the facts Congress was providing.

Directly attacking the BJP, the Kerala Congress said that the Kashmiri Pandits left the Valley en masse "under the direction of the then Governor Jagmohan who was an RSS man".

"The migration started under the BJP-supported VP Singh government," it said. "BJP-supported VP Singh government came to power in December 1989. Pandits’ migration started the very next month, in January 1990. BJP did nothing and continued supporting VP Singh till November 1990," it added.

Congress said: “BJP was engineering a Hindu-Muslim divide in the country over the Ram Mandir issue in Ayodhya during the migration. Pandits’ issue suited BJP’s propaganda to create a fake outrage for electoral gain.”

BJP MP reacts

Meanwhile, BJP MP K.J. Alphons has said that Congress does not understand history, he has a distorted version of it.

He told news agency ANI that 'everyone knows that one and a half lakh Kashmiri Pandits were driven away at the behest of the ruling party on communal lines, which was the Congress or its backed government at that time.'

Alphons said that 'Congress and its allies created a situation in which Panditji could not, they were murdered, their lives were in real danger, so they came out. Things have improved dramatically after the abrogation of Article 370.
