Ground Report | New Delhi: Kashmiri students under UAPA; The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the medical students for celebrating the victory of Pakistan. In the India-Pakistan T20 match on Sunday, Pakistan defeated India by a huge margin of 10 wickets and some medical students rejoiced in this victory.
Kashmiri students under UAPA
The case has been registered against the students of Government Medical College, Karan Nagar and Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Science, Shoura, Srinagar. Both these college students are accused of raising pro-Pakistan slogans during the T20 World Cup match on Sunday.
Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar said, "a case has been registered against some medical students of GMC and SKIMS for allegedly celebrating Pakistan's victory against India in T20 World Cup match."

According to an FIR lodged at Soura Police Station (under FIR No. 104/2021), “during the intervening night of 24 and 25 October 2021 when Pakistan won a one-day cricket match, the students of SKIMS, who were pursuing MBBS and other medical degrees, were unmarried. Hostel Soura raised slogans and burst crackers.
The ruckus broke out when Home Minister Amit Shah was on his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the first since the abrogation of Article 370 from the erstwhile state.
Political leaders expressed its anguish
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday accused the Center of resorting to "retaliatory" action against Kashmiri youth and said such steps would further "isolate" them, as some students here have been accused of a T-T. The cases were registered to celebrate Pakistan's victory over India in 20 international cricket.

Such steps will alienate them further, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said on Twitter.
Awami Ittihaad Party AIP has expressed its anguish over the FIR filed against the medical students on the charges of cheering the win of Pakistan Cricket team against India.
Awami Ittihaad Party spokesperson Firdous Baba said. "The loyalty can not be gaged by the parameters of celebrating the win of a particular team. There is no law either in any constitution in the world which may bar a citizen to support a sports team over than the team of his own country. Taking legal action against students under UAPA is ridiculous, unjustified and unacceptable.

Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone said that I strongly disagree. If you think that they are not patriotic enough because they cheered for another team- you should have the courage and the belief to wean them back f you think they have gone patriotically astray. Punitive actions won’t help. Have not helped in the past either.
He added "We don’t see anti-indianism or pro-Pakistanism as an irreversible condition. It is at best a curable disease. Let us cure it. Allow us to cure it. Punitive actions can worsen the disease".
Kashmiri students attacked in Punjab
Earlier, Kashmiri students studying at Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sangrur, a private educational institution in Punjab, were assaulted after Pakistan's victory. They were threatened and their hostel rooms were ransacked.
The video of this incident became very viral on social media. After which Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police Swapan Sharma had said that the matter has been resolved. "Both sides have apologized to the police and the college authorities on (Monday) morning."
Shoaib, another student of the same college, said, “We were in our hostel rooms when we heard some noise from outside. We went to see what was happening and in another block saw some people attacking Kashmiri students. They had broken the window panes of the rooms and were constantly shouting ‘You are Pakistani’.” He said, “We locked ourselves in our rooms.”
“We were here watching the match. The UP people came in. We came here to study. We are also Indians. You can see what was done to us. Are we not Indians? So what does Modi say?” One of the Kashmiri students said, showing the damage done to a room.
Another student said, “The local Punjabis came to our rescue. They tried to save us from these attacks.” Several other students told that they have spoken to the college administration and they have been assured that the matter will be taken seriously. Let us tell you that at least six Kashmiri students have been injured in this incident.
