Ground Report | New Delhi: Kashmiri student found hanging; A student from central Kashmir's Budgam district was found hanging on the ceiling of his hostel in a college in Punjab. News Agency KNO reported that Umar Dev, son of Abdul Ahad Dev of Chevdara Beerwah Budgam, was found hanging in a hostel of RIMT University College, where he was studying B.Sc Radiology.

Umar's roommate Shahid at RIMT College said that he was missing since last evening and in the morning his body was found hanging and the police have taken the body from the spot. A police officer confirmed and said that the family has left for Punjab to collect the dead body.

90,000 young adults died by suicide in 2019 in India

Over 1.39 lakh Indians died by suicide in the year 2019, of whom 67 percent were young adults (18-45 years), according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).

The NCRB report titled 'Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2019' released on Tuesday shows that out of the total 1.39 lakh 2019 suicides, 93,061 were young adults. Compared to 2018's number (89,407), youth suicides in India have increased by 4 percent. The total suicide figures increased by 3.4 percent in the same period. Hanging was considered the most common method of a suicide attempt. In the year 2019, about 74,629 people (53.6 percent) hanged themselves.

Average 381 suicides Daily in India

According to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, India recorded an average of 381 suicide deaths per day in 2019, taking the total to 1,39,123 deaths over the year. The data showed a 3.4 percent increase in suicides during 2019 (1,39,123 suicides) as compared to 2018 (1,34,516) and 2017 (1,29,887).

As per the data, the suicide rate (incidents per 1 lakh population) has increased by 0.2 percent in 2019 as compared to 2018.
