Jammu and Kashmir government set the ball rolling for conduct of panchayat polls on vacant seats in Jammu and Kashmir.
The government constituted an apex level committee and two divisional level committees to come up with the roadmap for holding the elections more than 13000 vacant seats in the union territory of J&K.
To be headed by principal secretary, home department the apex committees will have principal secretary, housing and urban development, principal secretary, transport department and Jammu as its members.
The divisional level committee for Kashmir will be headed by divisional commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan with inspector general of Police Kashmir and director ruler dept Kashmir as its members.
Similarly the divisional level committee for Jammu will be headed by divisional commissioner Sanjeev Verma with inspector general of Police Jammu and director ruler dept Jammu as its members.
An official said the apex level committee would draw a road map and detailed schedule for conducts of elections on the basis of report from the two committee and upon assessment of the ground situation. It will also take into considerements various requirements including security logistics, personnel and equipment.
The divisional level committee based on an assessment of requirement including manpower and security will submit their reports to the apex level committee.
The two committee have been asked to sumit their reports by January 10 2020. The apex committee will submit its report to the government by January 13 2020.
The commissioner secretary rural development department and panchayat Raj, Sheetal Nanda said around 12000 to 13000 panchayat seats were vacant in Jammu and Kashmir
