A year ago, the Center had decided to remove Article 370, which gives privileges to Jammu and Kashmir. This decision of the central government was welcomed by some. Some even opposed it. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah had also demanded re-enactment of Section 370. He has since made another controversial claim. He claimed that Kashmiri citizens do not consider themselves Indians. Kashmiri citizens do not consider themselves Indians nor do they want to be Indians. In return, he said, he wanted China to rule over him. He made the claim in an interview with The Wire.

“To be honest, I would be surprised if they (the government) find someone who calls himself an Indian in that place. You go there, talk to anyone, I don’t want to make it clear that they don’t consider themselves Indians or Pakistanis, “he said.

“The Kashmiri people no longer trust the government. At the time of partition of the two countries, it was easy for the people of the valley to move to Pakistan, which was formed on the basis of religion. But at that time, they accepted Mahatma Gandhi’s India and not Modi’s India, “he said.”

Today, China is moving forward. The Kashmiri people know what China did to the Muslims. Still, they want China to come to India.

I’m not serious about it, but I’m honest about what people don’t like to hear, “said Abdullah. The BJP is claiming that the Kashmiri people have welcomed the changes in 2019 as they have not staged any agitation. If Article 144 and soldiers are removed from the place, millions of people will be evacuated. The new domicile law was meant for Hindus and to increase the number of Hindus in the valley.

He also said that the Kashmiri people have been hurt more by this. “Today, China is moving forward. The Kashmiri people know what China did to the Muslims. Still, they want China to come to India.

Abdullah was asked how Kashmiris view the central government and especially Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. “The Kashmiri people no longer have faith in the central government. The belief that Kashmir was once tied to the whole country is now completely gone, “Abdullah said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Farooq Abdullah had said in the Lok Sabha that Article 370 should be re-enacted to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that the decisions taken on August 5 last year need to be reconsidered.
