Karnataka and Kerala have the highest number of women working in the science and technology research field in the country, Minister of State (Independent) of the Union of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh said in Lok Sabha.
In a written response to a question in Raja Sabha today, Dr Jitendra Singh said that according to the latest Research and Development Statistics report of the National Science and Technology Management Information System (NSTMIS), Department of Science and Technology, there are 56,747 women scientists directly are engaged in research activities out of a total of 3.42 lakhs of research staff in various research institutions (R&D).
The total number of women working in the institutions of the Ministry of Science and Technology; 162 in the Department of Science and Technology (DST), 1477 in the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and 1875 in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The following is the state list of women working in these institutions:
