Karachi's Madina Masjid demolishment, What's the whole issue

Ground Report | New Delhi: Karachi's Madina Masjid demolishment; The Supreme Court of Pakistan has dismissed a petition seeking a review of the order for the demolition of the Madina Masjid on Tariq Road in Karachi.

According to the report of Pakistani news channel Geo News, the administration of the mosque had filed a petition seeking reconsideration of the court's order on December 28. In the order, the Supreme Court has ordered to demolish the mosque built on the land allotted for the park.

The mosque administration has argued that the East District Municipal Corporation (DMC) has issued a notice to vacate the mosque. Since the Municipal Corporation does not have the "proprietor of the land", it does not have the authority to issue such notices.

"The land was allotted by the housing society and as per law the mosque was constructed only after their permission."

The petition states that all legal formalities were completed for the construction of the mosque in 1994. On December 28, the Supreme Court had directed the authorities concerned to build a park on the Madina Masjid land within a week.

According to Geo News, Pakistan's Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan appealed to a three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed to review the decision as it is giving rise to religious tension". In response, Justice Ahmed told the Attorney General that the Sindh government could allot land elsewhere for the mosque. (Karachi's Madina Masjid demolishment)

The Islamic leaders of Pakistan are furious over the order to demolish the Medina Masjid. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Sindh general secretary Rashid Mahmood Soomro on Wednesday challenged Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to show the mosque demolished.

On December 29, Rashid Mahmood, while addressing Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Chief Justice, said, "Wazir-e-Azam Saheb Masjid is not unclaimed. Chief Justice Sahab Masjid is not unclaimed. Is it called the princely state of Medina? The temples are safe but the Supreme Court orders the demolition of the mosque.
