Karachi University suicide blast: Four killed, including three Chinese

Four people, including three Chinese nationals, have been killed in a suicide blast on a van at Karachi University. Authorities fear the death toll could rise. Authorities say a Baloch separatist group has claimed responsibility for the blast. Authorities also say the blast was carried out by a female suicide bomber.

According to university spokesman Mohammad Farooq, another Chinese national and his security guard were also injured in the attack.

Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said that the preliminary investigation revealed that it was a suicide attack. He said closed-circuit television footage showed a woman in a chador approaching the van, which was followed by an immediate explosion.

Among those killed was the director of the Chinese Confucius Institute. According to officials, the Baloch Liberation Army, a Balochistan-based militant group, carried out the attack to target Chinese nationals.

According to a statement issued by the organization after the attack, the attack was carried out by a woman belonging to BLA named Shari Baloch alias Barmash. The attacker was reportedly the first female suicide bomber in the group.

Balochistan has long been a stronghold of separatist movements of armed Baloch groups. The main goal of these movements is more autonomy and equitable distribution of natural resources in the region.

Thousands of Chinese in Pakistan are working on a number of development projects, the most notable of which is the C-Pack project. Part of this is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It includes a number of infrastructure and power projects. Chinese nationals working on the project have been attacked by Baloch separatists in the past.

According to a statement issued by the organization after the attack, the attack was carried out by a woman belonging to BLA named Shari Baloch alias Barmash. The attacker was reportedly the first female suicide bomber in the group.
