Kanhaiya Kumar likely to join Congress

Ground Report | New Delhi: Kanhaiya and Jignesh Mevani; Kanhaiya Kumar and jignesh may have kept silent on leaving the Communist Party of India or joining the Congress on September 28, as per party sources.

Kanhaiya and Jignesh Mevani

The Congress party sources as saying that Kanhaiya Kumar is in touch with Rahul Gandhi and may join the party along with Gujarat's Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani.

Although it is being said that Jignesh, who won the last assembly elections with the support of the Congress, is ready to join the party in view of the upcoming Gujarat elections, but Kanhaiya is confused about this decision.

A party leader from Gujarat said, "We don't have concrete information as Kanhaiya Kumar and Jignesh Mevani directly talk to Rahul Gandhi but we have heard that Hardik Patel is trying his best to bring both of them into the party."

Jignesh had chosen as an independent candidate in the last assembly election and remained independent throughout the term of the assembly, but now there are reports that he wants to join the Congress.

In this connection, Mevani's tweet on Monday is being seen, in which he said, "Rahul Gandhi and Congress have given a message by deciding to make Charanjit Singh Channi the Chief Minister of Punjab. This will have a huge impact not only on Dalits but also on Dalits. on all the downtrodden sections of the society."

Mevani joins Congress

If Mevani joins the Congress, it will be his personal decision, but his ideological commitment to the CPI and Kanhaiya's position is more complicated due to the poor condition of the Congress in Bihar.

The Congress's dependence on the RJD could also be a concern as there is a perception that Kanhaiya is not with Tejashwi Yadav. Dynamic youth leaders also want more independence to rebuild the Congress in Bihar, and that may mean creating a curriculum independent of the RJD at some point.

The Congress has no doubts about Kanhaiya's entry as the party knows that his appeal crosses barriers of caste, religion and region. The Congress has been ridiculed for the exit of young leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasad and Sushmita Dev, and Kanhaiya would be a big catch in these circumstances.

G23 leader

Rahul will be keen to give Kanhaiya a key role in the organisation, which will give impetus to the restructuring process that he has been quietly implementing in the party.

While he has involved most of the G23 leaders in the party's work at various levels over the past few weeks, Rahul has deliberately taken a tough stand on some leaders who appear vocal against his leadership. "No reconciliation attempt has yet been made," a G23 leader said.

Rahul is really focused on making a new face for the Congress. Replacing the deeply strong and powerful Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was never going to be an easy decision, but he took it forward with extraordinary determination.

Rahul Nana Patole, Revanth Reddy, D.K. Shiv Kumar and Navjot Singh Sidhu as state unit chiefs and more such decisions are in the pipeline. With Kanhaiya joining the party at this stage, the perception of change will be strengthened.
