Hyderpora encounter: Families disagree with SIT report

Ground report | New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Hyderpora encounter in which four people, including a building owner and a doctor, were killed.

Four people were killed in the Hyderpora encounter on Monday evening. However, the families of the three killed contested the police's claim, saying those killed were innocent. Kashmir Police Chief Vijay Kumar admitted that the building's owner Altaf Ahmed was a civilian who was killed in a crossfire, but added that Dr. Mudasir Gul was an OGW while the third was identified as Amir Ahmed.

The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) said they are not worried about the elections but want to protect people's lives, adding that they "will not allow Kashmir to be turned into a graveyard".

Addressing media persons after the meeting in Srinagar, PAGD spokesperson, Muhammad Yusuf Tarigami said that they had an in-depth discussion on the Hydepora shelling and demanded a time-bound judicial inquiry into the incident.

“The irony is that citing several issues including Covid, security reasons and others, burials are not being allowed, which is against the Constitution. We had decided to meet the families of the victims under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and informed the police, but we were not given permission.

National Conference vice-president and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that at this stage, he has nothing to do with the inquiry ordered by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
