There was also a lot of criticism on social media against toll plazas in Jammu city. Then the old tradition of 150 Darbar Move was ended and another thunderbolt was struck on the people of Jammu.

The policy of Darbar Move was started in 1872 by Maharaja Gulab Singh to carry out administrative affairs efficiently. After independence, it was maintained by various state governments. Srinagar and its environs get very cold in winter due to snowfall - heavy snowfall often paralyzes business life.

Similarly, in summer, Jammu city gets extremely hot like Delhi, Rajasthan, and UP. Srinagar is more suitable for summer work while Jammu is more suitable for winter work. Administrative matters The Secretariat was shifted to Jammu for six months in winter and to Srinagar for six months in summer, keeping in view the seasons.

Darbar Move was not only a means of communication between the two cities but it was also very useful for the economy of the two cities. The practice was abolished by the Jammu and Kashmir governor's administration in May this year. People also spoke out against it - the PDP president called the decision frivolous.

Ongoing protests

Chamber of Commerce and Industry CCI, Jammu Arun Gupta said that the move is aimed at putting pressure on the UT administration to stop harassing the traders of Jammu in one way or the other. “We appealed to all to observe a peaceful bandh against issues related to Chamber and Commerce. We are grateful that the bandh received an overwhelming response across the province, even from areas where we expected the least,” said Arun Gupta.

Several political parties supported the chamber bandh and I would like to humbly appeal to confine your protest within the issues raised by the traders,” Gupta categorically asked the political parties not to deal with the abrogation of traders' special status.

Transporters from Jammu also joined the protest and said that it is not only for traders but for every stakeholder in Jammu. Amidst the ongoing protests over the alleged opening of Reliance Retail stores chain for the past several days, the company on Tuesday said that the talk of us opening 100 stores (in Jammu) is completely wrong.
