Ground Report | New Delhi: Ever since companies began deploying 5G, public acceptance of it has been weak. There have been several allegations of 5G regarding its security, including a report that 5G network testing caused the deaths of hundreds of birds in the Netherlands, later this news turned out to be fake.

WHO, report about health risks from 5G?

The reason why many condemn 5G is the fact that 5G uses extremely high frequency (mm-scale) waves that lie between 30 GHz to 300 GHz. Due to the high -frequency characteristics, the waves do not travel long distances like 4G. Hence antennas, must be erected closer to each other to provide clear 5G reception.

According to the report of WHO, a lot of research has been done, no adverse health effects have been reported from exposure to wireless technologies. Health findings have been drawn from studies conducted across the entire radio spectrum, but so far, only a few studies have been conducted on the frequencies used by 5G.

Tissue heating is the main mechanism of interaction between radio frequency fields and the human body. Current technologies result in a negligible increase in temperature in the human body as a result of radiofrequency exposure levels.

As the frequency increases, there is less penetration into the body's tissues and the absorption of energy is limited to the surface of the body (skin and eyes). Provided that the overall risk remains below international guidelines, no results for public health are anticipated.

But the real questions is, does this technology pose health risk and environmental issues?

There are of course two distinct opinions to this questions. Wireless companies, and even government websites such as those of the CDC and EPA, have worked to reassure the general public that the radiation emitting from the 5G networks is completely safe. However, other research has demonstrated that there be harmful biological effects from exposure to electromagnetic fields.(EMF).

The World Health Organization's international Agency for research on cancer (IARC) has also classified as 'possibly' to humans and study conducted by U.S national toxicology programs found 'clear evidence' to cell phone increased cancer and damaged DNA in rats and mice. A letter written by Dr. Martin pall discuss the serve biological and health effects resulting from,5G stating the guidelines in favor of the telecommunication industry.

Dr. Pall believes that may be major long-term ill effects after the 5G network ,such as blindness, hearing loss, skin cancers, male infertility, and thyroid issues. Unsurprisingly, the 5G is different and making sure that the technology is deployed at the soonest opportunity the agency's efforts are put towards developing will prevent local governments from implementations of 5G. Apart from 5G studies to research that shows evidence of the harmful effects of low intensity, to electromagnetic radiations on animals. Whatever the case, most experts agree that open, frank and unbiased investigation is needed on the subject.

Advantages:

  • Technology to gather all networks on one platform.
  • More effective and efficient.
  • Easily manageable with the previous generations.
  • Possible to provide uniform, uninterrupted and consistent connectivity across the world.

Disadvantages:

  • Technology is still under process and research on its viability is going on.
  • The speed of technology is seems difficult to achieve because of incompetent technological support in most parts of the world.
  • Many of the old devices would not be competent to 5G, hence, all of them need to be replaced with new one expensive deal.
  • Developing infrastructure needs high cost.
  • Security and privacy issue yet to be solved.

So, What do you think about 5G ? Is it safe? should it be embraced, or banned?
